We had the same dilemma with my grandfather. My grandmother, aunts and uncles were just emotionally drained bc they didn't know how to care for him, but felt guilty about letting the professionals take over. They finally did and he was way better off. He had around the clock care and we were able to visit him when ever we wanted without the concern of whether or not he was getting what he needs.

Thats where I'm at. I can't do it much longer and its quite possible I could do something wrong. If he's being cared for properly then visits would be more joyful instead of dreading it.

It sure is, quality is more important than quantity. We were all surprised at the things my grandfather needed that we didn't know. Keep in mind we have 3 doctors in my family and they didn't even know how to care for him bc it's not what they practice. When you're ready, don't feel guilty, just spend as much time as you can with him.
