Last night was complete misery after a few hours of nice time...today he's napping more but the misery usually happens later in the day.

I don't mean to make light of a really difficult situation, but is there anything you can do to make it less difficult? Are you alone? Can you have a back up person for moral support? I know your father is going through a lot, but so are you and the rest of your family.

Next step is a care facility, which we are trying to avoid for him but trying to do it has weighed heavily on all the family.

We had the same dilemma with my grandfather. My grandmother, aunts and uncles were just emotionally drained bc they didn't know how to care for him, but felt guilty about letting the professionals take over. They finally did and he was way better off. He had around the clock care and we were able to visit him when ever we wanted without the concern of whether or not he was getting what he needs.

Thats where I'm at. I can't do it much longer and its quite possible I could do something wrong. If he's being cared for properly then visits would be more joyful instead of dreading it.
