Beautiful post. I've loaded into my drive so I can blow up the pictures and dig out all the detail I can.

What is the purpose of that "mid-section" that can be seen in picture #5? Does it have the same purpose as a whip strut only longer?

I was wondering the same thing. At first I thought it was a jig to keep the hole-saw in line but it says the the bottom was recessed for it and it's bolted in.
