Well I'm a little late as compared to my previous standards. I actually more fun at DS this year than any other DS I've attended. Not because I did any of the usual stuff, but because I ran the absolute shit out of my boat. We launched at Cattail around 830am. Ran up through the channel, then back down a little South of Copper Canyon. Watched the Regatta, then ran back through the channel. Up to Topock for lunch and a few beers, then to Pirates for a couple more beers, then back through the channel, then down toward the Dam. Finally trailered the boat around 630pm. I got absolutely fried. And I burned damn near 100 gallons of LL100. It was an epic day!
Fortunately my boat performed flawlessly. With a fresh drive I suppose thats to be expected. And we were able to give some pretty bad ass boats a run for their money. I'm sure they are still scratching their heads wondering how a little 26' potato chip put the hammer down on them 8yrs of seat time helps when the water isn't rook friendly. I think I've finally figured this boat out, and my boat knows what to expect from me as well lol.
As far as spectators, imo, this had to have been the biggest one so far. I did not attend the street party or any other usual functions this year. In fact, I stayed at my place in Parker and only came up Friday am. Completely missed the street fair. And from what I was told, it was kind of a mirror image of last year.
It was definitely great to watch all that incredible hardware screaming down the lake with Heli's in tow. Mind boggling that boats that look that great can actually back up their looks with brute force speed. And the drivers/owners aren't afraid to get them a little dirty so that we can enjoy seeing them raging on the lake. Definitely a labor of love.
I didn't get a lot of shots this year, unfortunately I was in vacation mode and was more worried about when and how we were going to get our next run in. As it turns out, even with the rough water, I definitely got my fix in and I'm still smiling today.
If you're still on the fence about this event, all I can say is this. This is the best excuse you'll ever get to run the lake and also get to watch your dream hardware tearing up Lake Havasu. So you can run your boat, watch your dream boats, and run a muck up and down the lake. Doesn't get much better than that. See you next year DS.
