Why are the hotels so damn expensive?
I looked to book 3 nights in late Aug for my grandmas bday and I can find anything really reasonable....

Bottom line, supply and demand. They get you in the season but will give away rooms in the winter. The island has been packed this summer, tons of people here and more boats in the bay than last year

Sounds like a good investment opportunity... Lets figure out the potential cap rate on some of the properties that are available in Avalon... 
I could see myself living on Catalina half of the year running a small INN...

Si senior... I've been craving their slices since this AM when I started daydreaming about a trip to Catalina next week.... 
Imagine being a NYC native, going to Avalon in the dead of winter and falling in love with the island... AND missing traditional NYC slices... I envision that is what happened and how that place got started...

Traffic coming home tonight was horrible, must have been 3-4 golf carts and at least 2 bikes. 4 minute commute is ridiculous
