    Puddingstone 2014 Part II

Mateo posted up a pic of ONE of Billy Mason's Cyclone boats out on the highway.

I thought I would post up a few pics and info on this boat....

Firstly, I would like to say that not only is Billy a SUPER guy because he is a FORD MAN... He is also very cool to talk to, I have been following his boats since around 1995 from his active participation in the Catalina ski race...

He has two boats and it is easy to confuse the two...

This guy has been playing with TURBO BBF, EFI, N/A, tuning for a long time now... He and his son participate in the Catalina race regularly, they participate in the Parker Enduro where they are very strong competitors, and also participating in the CJ class of the circle boat races...

The TWIN TURBO boat is sporting BIG cubic inches (over 700 inches) and the power runs through a Zdrive into the jet drive... His boat has been to Catalina a BUNCH of times and his stuff is put together RIGHT!!!

The boat shown below is direct Jet (no Zdrive) and runs a 514... Heads are Kaase Boss9 heads...

The next time you see Billy and his son at the races be sure to stop and say hello, SUPER nice guys to visit with... And FORD guys to boot... All around racer and all around great guy... Good to see you again Mr. Mason...

Except in front of jets. I think you know I am not overly fond of 385s, but more so than 335s which I zero use for.
That head is soon to be obsolete. Cool looking, ooooold school. If they were half as fast as they looked or you tried to make it out to be, everybody could have just stayed home. I don't remember it working out like that.

Sportsman racers rejoice! Built for conventional bore spacing Ford 429 and 460, Edelbrock’s latest BV3 head isn’t even available yet. When it goes on sale late this year in Pro-Port and CNC versions it will be their biggest Ford head yet. The CNC program isn’t set, but so far Edelbrock has seen more than 600CFM. The heads will use 2.6- and 1.94-inch valves in 11- and 14-degree valve angles. The photo above is a very rough version of the head, practically fresh out of the mold.

SO, as I understood Mr Mason, the boat with the Zdrive has the gas tank in the belly which forces the engine to sit HIGHER and would be TOO high for a typical JET drive set up so with the "ZDrive" it drops the output C/L down to the proper height for the jet drive... There is adjustability in the Zdrive allowing gear changes between the engine and the JET input...

It's been a few years since I saw the set up in person so I dont recall which brand of set up Mr Mason is running:
