If there were underground mines, it could be an air shaft to let in fresh air. But that would mean either a grate or a big tunnel at the bottom. A wier or intake of some sort, would have a tunnel about the same size as the intake.

There was just that one near the surface. It's hard to tell from the videos but it almost looks like it opens up a little at the bottom.

After seeing what's on the video I don't care if there was a pot of gold at the bottom....I wouldn't go in that thing.

Here's one video....the quality still sucks. I'm uploading another one that is better quality and shows more. This was the first video without the flashlight as you can see at about 25' it gets dark. The camera was also bumping off the wall.. In this video you can see gold at :18-:20 but it doesn't show up on the youtube video
