The way the water is receding, I wonder how much longer till the entire town is visible....funny how it is all of a sudden a "historical site"...they are the ones who buried it under 300' of water....:/

That is so true and hilarious!... I never thought about it that way. It's an actual crime to remove anything from there.

Not sure here but I think that mining spoils are called 'tailings' rather than 'trailings'........but then again, I've been wrong before......at least once..

True, but still, when I used to work out of Yermo, I would wander up to Calico ghost town every now and then out of sheer boredom I suppose. The women in Yermo are so ugly that the word "toothpaste" must have been invented there. Anywhere else, it would have been called "teethpaste"....in any case, the guide told me one day that the tailings around Calico had several million in gold within them...but it was not cost efficient to mine it out....

I talked to a friend today that said they are pulling no less than $1000 a day of gold out of the dry lake bottom. I will be bringing my gold pan next time.
