Avenger 99-F
Hey, what’s that circle boat doing at Ski-Land? One of Bud Meyer’s 266 cubic inch hydros. Harlan Orrin designed, built and drove the boat as a 150 with a Bud Meyers Chevy Nova engine, then as a 266 with a sbc., then at the drags with a injected gas 327. After Bud Meyer and Harlan split partnership, he formed a partnership with Pete Altman & Wayne Rexwinkle. At the first meet at Long Beach Marine Stadium, Harlan set the APBA UGH record @ 107.14 as 99-F HOMEWRECKER. breaking the APBA UNBLOWN GAS, HYDRO, AUTO ENGINE, DRAG record at the Long Beach Marine Stadium, on July 18, 1965. Also, NDBA 100 mph club. We ran for several years undefeated. Harlan Orrin

My dad had acquired a small stack of race boat magazines when I was young and I loved to look through them. I grew up around Hot Rod cars and Boats and my heros were Julian Pettingill, Gordon Jennings Sr, Paul Grichar, Ray Caselli, Schwabby, Don Garlits, Tom McEwen, Bob Hannah etc. I also thought many traditional ball sports athletes were cool too, but the "2 ball" motorsports were just more exciting to me.
As I've gotten older I turned a photo/video hobby into a (very small) business and was rewarded by having many of my "heros" become my friends. The more videos I shot the more friends I made and It got to where some of the older guys would ask me if I wanted their old collections knowing they would be well kept, appreciated and utilized and that everyone would benefit from.
Along the way, I've spent some money on ebay grabbing up what I can, but it's rare when anything pops up at all and especially for rags I don't already have.
I have a lot of stuff, but I also know of 2 people with fairly large collections that I hope to end up with someday. I guess I've become a raceboat magazine "hoarder". lol
This is about 2/3rds of my stash. So as you can see, I can keep this thread going a while.
