Yet another Hallett fix????

Why not remove the teak and do a rubber insert like most other boats do? No more maintenance and no warping.

I thought of that , but having the rubber lazor cut would get expensive..also thought of having it filled smooth and none skid

I think planing or thinning your teak would definitely cause it to warp sooner

My sportfisher had teak all over it and never again. Hallett was always going for the classy look I'm thinking, with the teak step and floors in the bigger models. I don't know that it would look right with a different style step, and I agree that milling it down will give you issues. I like the look of the aluminum steps, but they're spendy and would ruin that boat's look I think. Let the new owner deal with it.

I had a teak swim step on a couple boats and it never looked good. It would always turn a white bleached color quick.

I would treat the teak about every third time out and it still never held up in the water.

Looked at Hallett back in the day but wasn't a fan of the teak. They said it wasn't an option so I moved on. I wasn't old enough to own a Hallett at that time anyway.

OR finish the strips with resin and then clear with automotive clear urethane... I believe this is the BAU process on wood decks/floors... Final coat is an automotive clear urethane like PPG Concept clear or DCC or DCU...


^^^ this should outlast the boats gel...
