Whats the best way to polish gelcoat? Is it just like a car?

Kind of depends on the finish condition as to what steps to take , is it clear coated ? On really chalky oxidized Gel we may start with 1000,1500,2000 grit and progresivly work up to some 3m compounds and finishers

Just finishing up my little boat for the season.. 78 Bahner.. Was going to do just a couple little repairs on this when i bought it. Ended up flipping it over and glassing some cracks and gringing out the stress cracks Sanded and smoothed the bildge and gelcoated it..Put new bearing buddys and sanded and painted the trailer and fixed a crack on it. Has a 468 and runs pretty well for a river boat.
