Snap-on made 3000 pcs to get that price at 100 each.

Snap on uses a forging die to create the rough shape and the finished internal spines and square end drive. To make the dies is very expensive so to do a small run of parts the internal profiles need to be broached. Broaching is a process to cut those sharp internals.

Thanks, I have always been intrigued by how parts get made.

The price of the broach alone will give you sticker shock... Here is a short animated video that will give you a an idea how your internal profile is cut...

Since that is a cutaway, is the broach basically a male piece with splines being pushed through a female piece? Thanks for the vid, this is interesting for me!
