If there were underground mines, it could be an air shaft to let in fresh air. But that would mean either a grate or a big tunnel at the bottom. A wier or intake of some sort, would have a tunnel about the same size as the intake.
How many of the cross braces were there on the way down to the bottom?
There was just that one near the surface. It's hard to tell from the videos but it almost looks like it opens up a little at the bottom.Quote:
