World Outboard Championships. That was a $25,000 race back in the 60s and 70s, sponsored by Robert McCulloch. Winner also got a residential lot in Havasu too. Only boat race I know of that had a right hand turn to go around what was then the peninsula, to Havasu Landing and back to the Nautical.

There was over a 100 entries in the 1965 Parker 9 hour and it remained in that area until about 1973 when the oil crisis hit, and it never fully recovered. The race was shortened to 6 hours, and it just kept slipping in numbers.Quote:
