    vegas shooting info...

From his hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, xxxxxxxxwould have looked down upon a crowd of more than 20,000 people, surging to the final sets of a country music festival.
He opened fire late Sunday, killing at least 59 people and injuring 527 others in one of the deadliest mass shootings in US history, authorities said.
But what may have seemed like a difficult feat, firing across an urban area and into a crowd from about 500 yards away — the equivalent of several football fields — appears to have been offset by xxxxxxx preparations, which made it possible for him to inflict mass carnage.
Law enforcement officials cautioned that their information remained preliminary amid a rapidly unfolding investigation, and it was at times contradictory. But officials said xxxxxx established firing positions by smashing a pair of windows in his hotel room. He was armed with at least 23 firearms, authorities said, including rifles designed to be fired at such distances. He was also perched from a vantage point that increased the likelihood that even errant shots were more likely to strike someone than had he fired them from ground level.
Among his weapons, a law enforcement official said, were AR-15-style rifles, a civilian variant of a standard service rifle used by the US military for more than a half-century.
The possibility that xxxxxxx used tripods, which two law enforcement officials said were in the room, indicates that he understood how to overcome some of the difficulties of his plan. Special mounts designed to fit the underside of a rifle and sit atop camera tripods allow the gunman to fire more accurately while standing. Military snipers use tripods in urban spaces, often setting themselves back from a window so neither they nor their weapons can be seen from the streets below.
These preparations, along with the downward angle of xxxxxxx gunfire and the density of concertgoers, would make the shooting more lethal than it might otherwise have been, and more difficult to counter or escape.
When the gunshots started, videos showed, those in front of the stage dropped to their stomachs — often an adequate first measure when under fire. But on Sunday night, the decision potentially put them at greater risk.
xxxxxxx position overhead gave him a vantage point over objects and obstacles that would typically protect people from bullets flying from a gunman at ground level. It also meant that inaccurate shots — the sort common to rapid or hurried fire, which typically sail high or strike the ground short — could still plunge into areas where people were huddled.
Audio recordings of the shooting suggest that at least one of xxxxxxxx weapons fired automatically, discharging multiple bullets with a single depression of a trigger, in what are commonly called bursts.
Weapons capable of burst fire have long been federally regulated in the United States and are more difficult to obtain than weapons that fire semi-automatically, for which regulations vary by state.
It was not clear Monday evening whether xxxxxxx possessed such weapons, or used semi-automatic weapons that had been altered. In some videos of the shooting, the rate of fire sounds inconsistent, at times sputtering.
This suggests the possibility that a weapon could have been modified to fire more quickly, a change to semi-automatic firearms known as bump or slide fire. Such modifications harness the recoil to allow for rapid fire.
Sheriff Joseph Lombardo of Clark County, Nev., said that at least 16 rifles, ranging from .308 to .223 caliber, and a handgun were retrieved from xxxxxxx hotel room. A federal law enforcement official said that AR-15-style rifles were among them. Authorities did not detail all of the guns, or which weapons xxxxxxx fired.
© Paul Buck/European Pressphoto Agency Police on Monday had a street near the shooting scene blocked off. xxxxxxx had purchased some guns in Arizona, according to a gun seller there who spoke with authorities.
Several pounds of a nonflammable exploding target used for practice were recovered from Paddock’s home in Mesquite, about an hour outside Las Vegas, Lombardo said. Ammonium nitrate was found in xxxxxxx car in Las Vegas, the sheriff said, but he did not say how much was recovered.
Determining which weapons were used will fall to investigators reviewing the crime scenes, including the hotel room, which would be littered with spent cartridge cases.
The duration of the bursts, as recorded, suggest that Paddock cared little about the military’s prescriptions for automatic fire. Sustained rapid fire is difficult to control and causes many weapons, especially light weapons, to overheat quickly.
Major Dave Eastburn, a Pentagon spokesman, said that the military had no record of xxxxxxx serving in any of the uniformed services.
The length of the bursts also indicate that xxxxxxx had magazines capable of holding scores of rounds, allowing him to fire longer without reloading.
Nevada, unlike some states, has no laws limiting ammunition magazine capacities.
The remaining limited details about how xxxxxxx organized for the crime raise more questions. Two law enforcement officials said he used a hammer to break the windows through which he fired, and Lombardo said he possessed scopes for at least some of his weapons, though it was not clear what roles they played.

LAS VEGAS — Investigators struggled Tuesday with a chilling but baffling array of clues in the wake of the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history — including a hotel room arsenal fit for a commando team — yet were still left trying to explain the chain of events that caused a 64-year-old retiree to turn a concert ground here into a killing field.
“I can’t get into the mind of a psychopath,” said Joseph Lombardo, the sheriff of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, on Monday.
At the same time, the probes stretched from a ranch-style home near the Arizona border to the 32nd-floor hotel suite used by xxxxxxx as a place to scan the crowds at a country music festival and then open fire — leaving at least 59 people dead and hundreds more injured in the rain of bullets or trampled in the panicked rush for cover late Sunday. He then killed himself as SWAT officers closed in.
And once again, a stunned nation was left to grapple with a city riven by tragedy and a resurgent debate over gun control and gun violence. The White House and many Republicans insisted it was a time to mourn rather than launch into political battles, while some Democrats renewed calls for gun safety legislation.

    Gun Control = Flawed logic

Whats next on the "ban" or "controlled" list? Cars? Knives? Cigarettes?

How about bomb control? Ban fertilizer, ammonia, gasoline, propane.

    Fuck

The debate extended to late-night comedy shows. A somber Jimmy Kimmel was in tears at the start of his monologue Monday night as he spoke of the “terrible, inexplicable, shocking and painful tragedy” in Las Vegas, his home town.
While the nation learned more about the lives cut brutally short as well as the heroic actions of people on the ground, few answers were available as to what, if anything, may have motivated the rampage. Lombardo warned that the number of dead could rise, as an additional 527 were thought to have been injured.
Authorities described a level of preparation that suggested the attack was planned in advance. Police said ****** arrived on Thursday, three days before the shooting, at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on the southern end of the Las Vegas Strip.
He had more than 10 suitcases in the suite, but aroused no suspicion from hotel staff even as he brought in 23 guns, some of them with scopes. One of the weapons he apparently used in the attack was an AK-47 type rifle, with a stand used to steady it for firing, people familiar with the case said.
Authorities said a sweep of law enforcement databases showed ****** had no known run-ins with police. ******* was the son of a bank robber who was once on the FBI most wanted list, but investigators have turned up no clear links to any criminal enterprises or international terrorist groups — despite repeated claims by the Islamic State that ******carried out the carnage in its name.

Among the questions investigators still have: How a former accountant with a penchant for high-stakes gambling obtained a weapon that sounded to those on the ground like it could fire as an automatic, and how he was able to bring it and many other weapons into a Vegas hotel suite undetected.
Investigators believe at least one of the guns functioned as if it were fully automatic, and they are now trying to determine if he modified it or other weapons to be capable of spitting out a high volume of fire just by holding down the trigger, people familiar with the case said.
Investigators also found at least 19 additional firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition and the chemical tannerite, an explosive, ********* home in Mesquite, Nev. They also found ammonium nitrate, a chemical that can be used in bomb-making, in ******** vehicle, Lombardo said.
Gun purchase records indicate ****** legally bought more than two dozen firearms across a period of years, according to a person close to the investigation. Guns & Guitars, a store in Mesquite, Nev., said in a statement tha******* purchased some of his weapons there, but employees followed all procedures required by law, and ***** “never gave any indication or reason to believe he was unstable or unfit at any time.” Lombardo said Paddock also seemed to have purchased guns in Arizona.

Internet experts abound. There are videos of what appears to be him at anti-Trump rallies, and quotes suggesting he figured that he'd find a larger collection of Trump supporters at a country concert. In this day and age, it's hard to say what's true and what's internet myth.

I saw clips of what was supposedly his faceyspace page with a bunch of anti-Trump rhetoric and groups on it as well. There have been suggestions he was somehow affiliated with ANTIFA, but again, what's true? Definitely not the stereotypical ANTIFA type, but who knows anymore.
