    Sleekcraft stringer project

Were engineering an actual "classic" partial stringer system for a customers Sleekcraft tunnel boat. These boats were built in our opinion using a less than adequate engine mounting system wherein the Engine utilized a common 3 point mount system employing a Mercruiser type base and pin mount at this sides of the block attached/bolted thru the actual hull material. Time has take its toll on the hull enlarging the through hull bolt holes and causing rot in the wood which was laminated into the floors on the sides of the tunnels. Once the new plywood panels and the new stringers are secure and glassed to the hull we will install a JBP rail kit for the BBC Blower motor destined to be installed here more to follow ..

The area of floor adjacent to the engine bay

the undersides of the hull and trailer were masked and protected

Once stripped and ground the old engine mount holes were reamed and filled with stranded glass putty

In preparation (after the rotted floor was removed) we built new rear panels from 3/4 inch plywood and then we attached/glued/doweled our new kiln dried Fir stringers to the plywood panels with a West Marine adhesive , the panels will be laminated back down to the existing fiberglass hull ... more to follow
