    Expanding Pontoon Boat!

I was flipping through this months issue of Boating World and came across an article describing islandboat.com
They make pontoon boats that expand when on the water and retract when putting it on the trailer and storing it.

    Here are a couple pics.

It comes in 2 models, an 18ft and 22ft model. The 18ft won an innovation award at the 2014 Miami boat show.
I think the idea is ingenious!
I would think, in a few years, we are going to see more pontoons doing this type of thing.

    What do you guys think?
    Would you buy one?
Aside from malfunction, what would be a few negatives to this?

    Here is their website:

That's bizarre. I have all kinda of questions. First I wonder if the added cost is worth the space.

The added cost is always worth more space.

I am thinking that will be broke in a couple of outings. From the water / flex to just deck pressure. A standard pontoon width is 8.5 feet. So I guess if you want to park it easily in a single bay garage this possibly makes sense. Seams like a PItA for 1.5 of width off the standard. One last thing - slide outs on a Moho are finicky at best. I cannot see adding this aggravation into my boating.

    Seems like a decent idea...
think the mechanicals would have to be pretty robust to not fail.

Expanding width is a good idea, but what if they were able to expand the length???
