The really "Old School" boating thread

This thread will be for anything (or place) relating to boating but lets go "really" old. Post up pics and video older than 1980 please. I just had surgery on my knee yesterday so I'll have the time to keep bumping this thread as I scan new things from my archives. Hopefully Wheeler will help me out too.

That was the oldest boat and the youngest skier in the Catalina race that year.
    Skiing Parker since 1960

Nordskog had another similar, early planked, pre plywood v drive Mandella flat named Wimsey, with a nail head Buick and 6 strombergs, that he ran in the Redondo Round Catalina race, finishing second after leading a Bertram offshore 3/4 of the race, and finished 11th in the 1964 Parker 9 hour.

Hey Bob, back in the early 90's I discovered a marathon boat in an Upland Alley. It was behind a fence and the boat was mostly covered, but my buddy and I could see Mickey Thompson's name on the wind deflector. We knocked on the door and an elderly lady answered but she wanted nothing to do with our inquiries. How cool would that be to restore if it ever turns up again....?

Not sure how many boats he built thru the years. But if it was a Nike hydro, or his dual Pontiac Mandella, that would be really cool!!!!
I know he had a single Pontiac engine Mandella as well. But anything you could document as his would be great to find!!

Not really. the first one I poached a couple years ago from a thread on PB. The LBMS pics I tripped over looking for info on Marion Beaver's "Gummy" hydros for a friend whos dad(Wayne Thompson) that drove the Uncle Gummy hydro, when Bob Ellis was driving the Gummy's Ghost hydro.
The guys with the old flat is from Glen L's "news letters" There is some pretty cool pics buried in the site, You just have to dig for them because they are buried in years of news letters.
The Mandella that Nordskog is driving still exists in resides in Palos Verdes, I believe with Bob's bother in law.

Heres a little piece of history for you. You know what this is a picture of?
I wish it was larger, but this is how I received it, and don't think the original pic is very big. maybe 3X5 max. This is the first time I have ever posted these online.
