Why not use it for a step on the back of your boat

Cam drive for the pump. Shaft socket is .750 major, .500 minor triangulated full radius profile made from 15-5PH h950 condition. Should be plenty strong.

The drive spud is shaped to match that, instead of a regular hex?

Okay, here you go. The drive end of the shaft to mate with the cam drive. Shaft is made from A-286, all diameters ended being .0007 total run-out. It has 2 large bearings in the center of the shaft with a .0003 press so they won't be too hard to get off if they ever need replacing. I gave it .005 clearance on the male to female fit of the drive end to allow for any misalignment when it all goes together.
