When we went we stayed at the Sheraton Kaanapali, we loved it.

Trust me we didn't stay at the 4 Seasons.....just had our special dinner there.

I lived there before I got married.....1981-1982, it was great being a young single guy over there and I had a great time! I met the love of my life and we started our life in CA where the opportunities were much better.....someday hopefully we'll spend a good deal of time there but we'll have to see how it goes. We rented a furnished condo in Kihea. We drove north or south to see the various places. Its not ritzy there really, but it made for a great home base location. If you are looking for a higher end resort I would go to one of the other areas.

Napili Bay is our favorite. Reef protected great beach. View from Condo 209 2nd Floor corner unit.

Wow! Great info!
To be a bit more specific, we liked Kaanapali for our family as it was close to other things to do.
That said, we don't mind driving a bit, so somewhere off the beaten path would be great. The resort and spa thing is cool for the wife and I to get a massage and kick back. The convenience of easy access to snorkel gear was cool also.
Our budget is flexible.So many boats...so little time.
