    Race Pumps

Anybody running these, or have ran them? Are they good, bad?

Depends on what you are using it on. If you don't need more than around 120 gal per hour, the Clay Smith. Teague, C&S, 6 valve mechanical is probably a better choice.
They are simple, and easy and fast to rebuild. But they have some Idiosyncrasies that may cause a non race boat owner a little peeved with. They don't pump fuel on the starter motor worth a shit. So if you need to start a boat with no fuel in the bowls you need to prime the carb to start it. They are critical to the size of the inlet fuel line. Not real friendly with water separating pre pump fuel filters either.

If you are making less than about 1200 HP, the 6 valve is a much more forgiving pump that is dead ass reliable, and cheaper.

Thanks for the input Bob. They look very clean but it sounds like they're not for me.

Bob's right about the priming. The first time we lit it off we crack a line and filled it with fuel from the top. After that never a problem.
Ran it for 3 years racing without an issue.

Also, if you don't have a pretty close to perfect suction, they totally blow. We had one, and when it would suck a touch of air, the game is up. But other than that, they are killer.
