 If you want to do SLOW MO of any quality at all you will need the model that allows 60 frames / sec or higher... 60 would be the minimum frame rate for half way decent slow mo in the recording quality you plan to record in...

Im new to this so not sure what i need in relation to software.  I have a Mac Book Pro so I know Imovie is on it.  Not sure if that helps or not.

 Not really unless you plan on digging deep into editing photos or graphics. iMovie will work fine for putting together videos, that's what I've used for a majority of the videos I've made.
