The color shots of the D&H Woodpecker and Mixed Emotions boats are like 2nd or 3rd generations of those boats. D&H were some of the early wood builders too.
I'll have to dig up the pic I have of the first Woodpecker running a Hot Boat race at Long Beach. Can't imagine try trying to corner one of those with that bottom.

I laughed when I saw this pic of the earlier Woodpecker. I worked for Joe Panek's Rotofaze Ignitions for a few months when in high school. It was in Inglewood then. Now his shop is in Torrance, and I see him every so often. Cool old man.

I'm not sure how I missed the "Mortician" as it's one of my favorite boats of all time.

These pix of the "Woodpecker" were taken at Birch and Broadway in Hawthorne, next to Dunaway and Douglas Mortuary, '63 or there about.

Seen this boat run a number of times, ..... dominated the 70's, I rarely hear it mentioned or the driver Al Bush but it always was the highlight of the event.

Jerry, do you know what year this was? I am guessing 1969 based on the dates, fri, sat and sunday, and there is still a SK and ERR class. The Jet classes kind of throws me though.
The next years with fri sat and sun falling on the dates is '75 and 80.
I noticed there is no GN, KM class. In 1969 they didn't race APBA. They were running the "Professional" drivers association or what ever it was called.

EDIT: figured out it was 1975.

Yes 1975 was correct, but how you could even remotely think '69 from this is beyond me.

What's with you and 1969 today? lol The Julian B boat pictured top left would have been 2 years later than 69 at it's earliest and the K Jet class was several years out from '69 too. Rough day today Bob?

1969 was during the SC years. But that didn't last thru 1975. Like I said, the jet classes were not setting well with me at all!!!

I think its the "what year did you graduate" thread that is throwing me.

So I wonder why GNs weren't listed on the flier?

I don't know. I didn't even attend my first Bluewater race until the 90's. I can say, I don't remember the GN's racing with the usual circle boats at the Stadium in the 70's. There sure were a lot of Hydro classes though and it was standing room only on the shore when the K's came out.

Yeah, I need to find out what they were doing during that period. I can't believe there were enough endurance races to keep them that busy. That's would have been during the E.T. period as well. Maybe the I.E. category had their own deal going on at the time.

You aren't kidding about the number of hydros that ran during that time. The capsule deal killed hydros on the west coast for some reason.
