    Mt. Baldy

MMA and I went to check out Mt. Baldy and had lunch at the Mt. Baldy Lodge today. Mt. Baldy didn't really get much snow this last weekend but there were some kids making the best of it sledding down the ski area. NBC was there doing a report about the lack of snow this year and how it was affecting the local businesses. There was also this big ass dog out in front of the Lodge that was mistaken for a bear by a little girl.

I live right at the base. Was hoping to get more snow this year. Kids enjoyed sledding last year.

I used to go up to Baldy several times a week.. It was so close to home and great hiking! Great pictures!! Thanks for sharing! I've seen bears run across that road over to the fire station a couple times.

You live in San Antonio H or N Upland?

It's a little over 30 minutes from Chino Hills. We usually hit up the Ice House Canyon Trailhead but there wasn't any snow there. These picture were taken in that area back in 2008 and 2010.

When Baldy has good snow it is actually known for being some of the best skiing in the world. Baldy back in the day would draw pros from all over the world. Other then owning the mountain and buildings out right Idk what keeps that place open yr after yr.

I use to ski this place several times a year. I wouldn't say it's the best skiing in the world but the best kept secret for SO. Cal. My favorite run was under the access chair that gets you from the parking lot to the ski area. There is also great tree skiing here. On clear days you can see Catalina from up there. On those moonlit summer nights it's a great place to have dinner and go for a late night hike...

McRib has it right when it comes to off trail skiing there. The best runs you have to hike to.

I didn't say the best. I said some of the best. It Def was/is a secret though. I never boarded on the south side except when it was time to go home. I always was on the north/back side to the west. Always and only the day after a good dump. After that conditions were Meh.
