I'm planning on sending the rudder, props and shaft out for X-ray. Any suggestions on where to send them in the SoCal/Corona area?

first, I would asked Darner what is in the boat.
Second, yes slight color difference between Monel and some Aquamets and 316. Hard to explain how you tell over the internet.
Maybe Westernaero can help, he works with exotic alloys for a living.
Not sure its necessary to have your stuff X rayed. Wet mag will usually tell you what you need to know, unless some of it is stainless.
X ray is great for looking for inclusions when it was forged or welded. I don't think you are looking for that are you.
Cracks tend to form on the surface first, and wet magging will detect those pretty well. Reading X rays can be a art form, and its not a whole lot easier to see a hairline crack in X ray than on the object itself.

Wet mag? At Irvine last year I watched a TFH team member spraying stuff on the props then some other stuff. Said he was looking for cracks.
Yes Bob, cracks are what I'm looking for.

500 will be slightly darker/grey than AQ22. Unless you have the 2 material right next to each other you won't be able to tell.
K500 on the left, 2507 Duplex(very close to AQ22) on the right.

Denton, you might put a magnet to the shaft first. If it's lightly magnetic then it's most likely AQ17(17-4PH H1150).

We use crack detector on our prop, mainly because it stainless and can't be mag'd. Its great for in the field use, like a fuel hydro between rounds. You can get at Granger or Mc Master Carr.
That is not wet mag. Wet mag involves magnetizing the part and magnetic dust in a solution that the part is either dip in or it is sprayed on an the particles will adhere to the crack due to north/south at the crack, and are detectable under a black light. Dry mag is similar except it is dry power and it leave a white line that can harder to see if the crack is very short and thin.
