When I started this project the 300AAC ammo wasnt available in the stores and the load data was very very limited. It wasnt SAAMI approved until this past Spring I think...

I blew the gun up once with some of my initial loads... It's just a science project...

Introducing the Advanced Armament Corp. 300 AAC Blackout (300BLK). This system was developed to launch 30 caliber projectiles from the AR platform without a reduction in magazine capacity and compatible with the standard bolt.

Full power 115-125 grain ammunition matches the ballistics of the 7.62x39mm AK, and eclipses 5.56mm with much higher-mass projectiles for a more dramatic effect on the target. Or choose subsonic cartridges for optimal use with a sound suppressor - 220 grain Sierra OTM (open-tip match) bullets vastly outperforms a 9mm MP5-SD in penetration and long range accuracy.


DESIGN OBJECTIVES
• Create a reliable compact 30-cal solution for the AR platform
• Utilize existing inventory magazines while retaining their full capacity
• Create the optimal platform for sound and flash suppressed fire
• Create compatible supersonic ammo that matches 7.62x39 ballistics
• Provide the ability to penetrate barriers with high-mass projectiles
• Provide all capabilities in a lightweight, durable, low recoiling package

REASONS 7.62x39 wAS NOT CONSIDERED
Extreme cartridge taper
• Reduces reliability of feeding in AR Magazines
• Reduces Magazine capacity
• Cartridge taper induces considerably higher bolt thrust-
exacerbating the AR Bolt's weaknesses
• Requires a larger Bolt Face which reduces Bolt Locking Lug strength-
exacerbating the AR Bolt's weaknesses
Limited projectile selection
• 0.311" diameter not a common option in most modern bullets

Cool stuff but I hate hard to find ammo stuff. I'll just stick with easy to get .556.

I know this is like asking "How high is up" but....................how much would you think it would cost me to build a rather standard run of the mill 5.56 AR? With some of the more desirable options not just "plain Jane" mil-spec??

Been thinking of building one but the local guys have a Colt for $850 and was wondering if I should go with that or build.......whatdoyathink??

I just crank out my own 300BLK now, its a great round for deer hunting... I purchased about 5000 pieces of brass from Brad's Warehouse... I crank out 200 or so when I get bored on conference bridges for work...

My two faves, an A1 replica that has original light barrel and all original furnature/sling/bipod

I just crank out my own 300BLK now, its a great round for deer hunting... I purchased about 5000 pieces of brass from Brad's Warehouse... I crank out 200 or so when I get bored on conference bridges for work...

You probably know who this Armalite came from but I will keep it a secret... as promised...

I put one together for my dad with an old colt upper like that one above. Triangle handguards and all. But I put a collapsible stock on it just cause I had one laying around. It's in the pics that Eli posted. It's got an original colt 3x scope on that carry handle too. Cool piece that shoots pretty well.

Unless you want to have a different stock or different type of handguards I'd just buy that Colt. That's not a bad deal. I could probably build you one for a little cheaper but it won't be a Colt. Now if you want it like mine with the longer handguard, magpul stock, custom trigger etc, it's probably better to build one.
