Interestingly, in the REAL race, the Miss Madison leads the race almost from the start. In the movie he wins on the last straightaway with the use of a shot "naaws" in the last seconds.
Also, in the movie, he beats the Miss Bud, in reality it was the Atlas Van Lines that was running 2nd.

I was four years old when this happened. I clearly remember it. It was me and my grandpa out for the day and we were watching this race. So I was there. Loved the sounds, loved the boats, loved the crowd. My grandpa lived in madison at the time. Originally Posted by gn7
