On our journey to see the Lincoln Monument we stopped by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. I was very moved to see the thousands of names of the solders who made the ultimate sacrifice. Just 2 days before the anniversary of the Marine Corp and 3 days before Veterans Day, it gave me a much greater appreciation for our military and their families.
There was a card placed by the wall and it was addressed to "Daddy". I asked one of the gentlemen who works there if he knew who left the card and he said he had an opportunity to talk to the lady who left it. Her father was a pilot whose plane was shot down. He was the father of five, she being the youngest at 1 when he was killed. A few years ago they found his remains and they buried him.
It broke my heart and even though I love taking pictures of everything I see, I felt it was an experience best left for my memory. I couldn't possibly take a picture that would do it justice. If the opportunity arises, I strongly urge you to take the time and see this monument.
