It does for the new ones. They only fit in your ear one way....May have something to do with the way sound comes through who knows?

Of course it matters! You don't want your left and right ear gunk spreading to the wrong ear!

Actually it does. On the old style ones like that the sound quality is better if you wear them reversed (L in R, R in L). Don't believe me?.... try it. The new style ones are ear specific and sound much much better.

Actually it has to do with how the sound channels work with motion. A car traveling to the right would look weird if the wound was traveling to the left.
