Never had Cognac, so I bought a bottle Sat. How's the best way to drink it?

Well....that's a great question?
I can't give you the "Textbook" answer but I can tell you how I enjoy it.
First of all I really LOVE Cognac but only at certain times and in the right environment. For me I prefer Remy XO and even have a bottle of Remy Louis XIII that I save for VERY special occasions....that being said I store it carefully but when I am ready to drink it I like to drink it from a Brandy Snifter (this really makes a difference) and then I like to have the cognac at room temperature.....maybe even a little warmer. When we drink the special stuff we gently warm the glass and cognac with a candle......not to get it hot but just to take the edge off and this really opens up the fragrances and brings out the most in the drink IMHO.
I also typically only have a cognac when enjoying one of my 10 - 12 Cigars per year. I'm not really a cigar smoker but something about hanging out with a buddy having a great cognac, telling stories (translation "Lying") and smoking on a great stogie that you briefly dip in the cognac prior to lighting

Thanks for taking the time to answer Paul.
Sounds kind of complicated.
So it's not something I would enjoy on the rocks? Fwiw, I purchased Hennesy, I don't have an experienced pallet.

Is that how you see the stick after a couple drinks?

I certainly gave you a complicated answer.....Oops!
On the other hand if you simply drink it at room temperature in a smaller (not little) glass "Neat" you'll be fine. Cognac is an "acquired" taste but if you work your way through the bottle (no necessarily in one sitting) you will likely be a fan going forward.
Have fun!!!
