It had jets in it, but only to steer it. About all a jet is good for.

Propulsion Type & Engine Room For M/Y GENTRY EAGLE:
Fitted with two MTU / TEXTRON LYCOMING codog main engines, GENTRY EAGLE is able to reach a maximum speed of 64 knots. Coupled to the GENTRY EAGLE engines are twin water jets/1sd (kamewa/arneson). She also has an efficient range of 1250 miles whilst motoring at her cruising speed of 45 knots. Her total HP is 11560 HP and her total Kilowatts are 8506.

I thought I remember reading that it got on plane with the Arneson then the jets kicked in.

It could cruise on the jets, but it needed the Arnesons to hit full speed. I worked a half block from where they build that thing. I watched them put it on the rail tracks in the middle of the night and take it to the LA Harbor.
I think you are misreading that info.

everytime you see a / that is two different systems. As in MTU, water jets, kamewa, AND Textron Lycoming, 1sd, Arneson.

When they made their record runs, they would shut down the jets units and make course corrections by throttling the Lycomings/Arnesons. The Arnesons did swing so steer it. But the jets could be used to make major directional changes, as well as be used in the harbors.

Seeing that thing get fitted out, I never once thought of it as a "jet boat"

Personally I would have a 100 footer with turbines and jet drives for shallow draft around the virgin islands, my 48 MTI for LOTO and a 41-47 Apache redone to new with 1350's and 8 drives on my Florida house lift. Maybe a 52SL Outerlimits.
    Dream big right?
    I like your list 👍
