Not to stir up anything really, but It has long been my opinion that there is a substantial percentage of people who should NEVER own or operate a boat, especially a fast or performance oriented boat. The discipline and common sense required to operate one SAFELY, isn't a characteristic that just everyone has. Any "squirrel" who has the cash, or credit at the bank can buy a boat.......you know the old saying,..."dogs chase cars, but, they can't drive".
