Gelcoat is petroleum based and once it dries out from the sun and chemical damage it becomes pours. Wet sanding and polishing helps close up the pours and seals the gelcoat giving it a nice new shine, but only for a short period of time. As far as cost goes it all depends on how much work is involved. Use RR's boat as an example it could be from $5k to $10k to have it done properly. can it be done for cheaper? sure but you pay for what you get.

Value is determined by the end user, re gelcoating your boat will not add value to NADA. However if said end user is purchasing a boat they would gladly spend more on a boat that has already been restored.

If you re-gel coat it doesn't that have the same potential of fading with sun and chemical exposure? Or am I missing something?
