To answer Eli's question, the Coronado Islands (there are four of them) about 18-19 miles west of San Diego Bay. Back in the day when there was real offshore racing, we'd leave San Diego, head north to Oceanside, make a U-turn and race back to Sand Diego, then turn to the west and head to the Coronados, around the back side of the islands and back to San Diego. Last time I was there the swells on the backside of the islands were running 12-feet. It was slow going for about 8 to 10 miles until we could back into a following sea condition. Nice scenery and good fishing.
