Found this review of it and overall it seems same/equal to the box. Problem with the review is he's comparing a one-off aluminum hourglass to the steel box. Make the hourglass steel and the weight advantage is likely mute.
Did not see any comment about the button, but seeing how it operates I can see if course sand or gravel gets in it the possibility of sticking seems relevant.

My personal observation is I'm sticking with my box.......... but the hourglass does seem comparable none-the-less.
