Roller cam, two pumps, no damper. It all adds up. Just be sure you use a GOOD chain. There is some shit out there and some of it has well known names one them. VERY WELL KNOWN NAMES.
If the engine isn't already together, I would consider a Rollmaster set.
Stay away from ones from the cam campanies. Most of them are buying gear from Dyna Gear and the chain from a separate vendor. Ton of chain coming out of India, some with Reynolds name on them. Reynolds is a good chain, if it comes from England. But you can't tell.

They can be. The problem is that they, along with virtually all the others, go with the chain that is available at the time that meets the price. I have seen Cloyes hex adjusts that had two different chains. IWIS and Rolon
I see Cloyes "Billet" sets with DID and Reynolds.
Rollmaster is the only set that I know of that uses a IWIS chain in every set,

If you are going to run a Cloyes, I would run the Race Billet set, not the Hex Adjust, and definitely not the Quick Adjust!!!! I want to believe they are putting the best chain possible in those sets.

The one thing you have to very watchful for is the word "BILLET" It always sounds so cool, be they have a less than "RACE" billet econo set too. And that's the set 90% of the cam companies are peddling.
Its hard to convince yourself that there is difference between Cloyes TX-9 set for 160.00 , and Howard Cams "double roller billet" for 87.00, Trick Flow's Billet for 79.00,
If you look at Crane, they have one billet set for 118.00, and another for 198.00. Hard to justify that 80.00, until your valves are getting intimate.

Its hard to save much money on a billet sprocket. The savings in any of these sets is in the chain. When the "billet" sets get really cheap like the Howards and Trick Flow, its usually a import sprockets(s) and cheap India or Chinese chain.

Its the chain that ALWAYS fails. I have seen one IRON crank sprocket fail in my life. Never seen a steel crank sprocket fail. Never seen a cam sprocket, iron or billet fail.


This chain failed in 4 hrs. (not mine) I had one fail mid season(Manley). That was enough for me, and I switch to a gear drive. 2 Milodon gear drive setups was cheaper (than pistons, valves and new T set) repairs from the failed T set

belts will take a lot of load and RPM, but they have a limited life span as well. One year is the max I would run one. They really don't like heat, like a closed engine compartment.

Well, when you consider they are good enough for a Top Fuel or Funny with the monster pumps they drive, I'll live with the harmonics issues. I would put a dual idler gear drive on a lawn mower. Their worse than a cheap chain. I have seen the crank gear fail on those because the gear is thinner than a chain or Milodon/Muldoon/Donovan gear drive. Even with the so called harmonics issues, my spark timing is waaay more stable with the gear drive that it ever was with the T chain.
