He WAS extremely famous, In fact there are few very famous pits that most Americans new by name throughout history. This one of the harder ones, They get easier, but the prize gets less.
If you call your self a pit expert, this should be easy.

Pits were one of the most popular breeds in the US from 1900 to about 1950. I had one as a kid, My dad had one as a kid. Mine was from the same linage as my dads, 25 years later. Nobody's pit ever killed a 4 year old back then. Nobody feared pits back then. What the fuck happened. Something must have gone terribly wrong somewhere.
