2014 Lucas Oil LODBRS Spring Opener

Lucas Oil kicked off their LODBRS series at Wildhorse Pass Raceway in Chandler Az. last weekend. From the test and tune on Friday to the finals on Sunday, things lit off without a hitch. Everyone I talked to was concerned about the possibility of wind on Saturday, fortunately for everyone the wind never really showed up. But the crowds and racers did and for the spectators it was a great weekend of racing.

The Hotboat.com crew arrived in staggered fashion this year. Some by air and some by car. Unfortunately due to other commitments we were not able to bring the Hotboat.com moho mobile. But for sure it will be on site for the upcoming Havasu races as well as the World Finals toward the end of the year.

It was definitely good to see friends we haven't seen in a few months, some since the World Finals last year. The event itself was first class as always. Lucas, with its vast experience and resources, always puts on a first class event. Its always a pleasure attending and from a behind the scenes perspective, Lucas makes it painless to gain access to the facility.

I did notice the spectators seemed a little light this race. Since this was our first Spring opener, I can't judge attendance last year. I did hear a few people say they did not go because they thought the wind would be a factor. For those who did attend, it was definitely great weather for racing and spending time with good friends.

The Hotboat crew ended up staying at the Wildhorse Casino. Very nice accommodations, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Somehow we ended up attending a concert on Friday night, and ended up in a Wild West stage on Saturday night, but that's another story.

The race gods were definitely watching over this event as there were no accidents. For that we are all very thankful. There was carnage, but that's just a part of racing.

At the end of the day it was nothing short of a successful weekend of racing. No records were broken, but its early in the season and a lot of the crews are getting their boats dialed in. We certainly look forward to the Lucas Oil Havasu races in a few weeks. I'm certain things will be heating up for sure.

Sounds like a hit! I'm sure I know how you ended up in a Wild West stage

When is the Lucas Oil Havasu race?

All day I was hoping it wasn't May 2. My younger sister graduates from law school that day, but I may leave after we celebrate. I think I can pull it off, but won't be there until late.
