Geez...a 540 with only 400hp? Am I missing something? Such a big block, so much weight.....very strange. If I was looking to repower, this would not be a choice for me.

I see tha ad says large boats and cruisers...guessing they aimed for torque as stated also, but wonder why so little hp too??
Wonder if cost would be low enough to use as a base with cam, carb, and intake swap able to liven it up??

It's a low rpm torquey motor. Not big power but perfect for cruisers with the old 454 motors. More torque for better acceleration and lower cruising rpm. Running low rpm this motor should run for years.

The CR is only 8.6:1 and it runs on 87 octane.

In my opinion - that's an engine that's begging for a blower.
