Yeah well we had to strip him of his holiday status when people finally woke up to the fact that when he got here there were people standing on the shore already and he really didn't discover shit. Add in the fact that they raped and murdered anything that moved and pilfered, and stole everything that wasn't nailed down, and he didn't look like someone we should be celebrating.
Kind of like trying to make a Capt Cook holiday in Hawaii.
I'm not working on Columbus Day.
Courts are closed...it's a free furlough day we can't bitch about :)
I'm working ...I don't work in the court house.

Federal chartered banks are closed, state chartered banks are open(in kalifornia)
kalifornia state buildings are "suppose" to be open, including state court houses, federal courts are closed. Not sure about city and county.
Kalifornia, Hawaii and Nevada do not recognize it as a holiday.
Hawaii has never been big on "discoverers" :wink2:
Kalifornia doesn't recognize it because its not liberal politically correct. Not sure why Nevada doesn't recognize it.
Taking the day off over here. Trying to extend the weekend as long as possible.
Schools are no longer closed on Columbus Day!
In Kalifornia, Hawaii and Nevada. Pretty sure they are closed in other states. It is still a "national holiday"
South Dakota celebrates today as "Native Americans Day" and in Berkley (downdown Moscow, Kalifornia) it is celebrated as "Indigenous People's Day"
I've decided to take the day off :D
Monday thru Friday are holidays for me, the other two are just weekend.
I'm off today too.

just like always.
Actually that doesn't really matter. They can be open if they want to for service purposes but nothing will clear overnight. Large banks that have a large check cashing presence such as Wells, BofA and Chase will often be open on Holidays for transaction purposes although nothing will truly be processed.
Nothing can clear as long as the Fed is closed.
Which means exactly what you said. The doors are open "for service", but banking is in effect closed.
When the papa bank is closed, the "system" is shut down.
