I thought it was nitro methane, had to check to be positive.

That smell almost made me pass out. Was walking in the pits and one of the Hydros started and revel engine as I was walking by OMG I couldn't breath and my eyes felt on fire

Mid 90's, took my kid to Sonoma raceway with me. He was parked in front of John Forces pit. The crew fires the car up, everyone, including myself and most everyone else around "headed for the hills". Nitro methane takes your breath away for the unfamiliar. Kid stood his ground and got Johns signature on a hat. Have it here somewhere.
