And if there is will any of the performance builders be there?
Very good question. I haven't heard anything.
Yup. And they're pouring a lot of money into it. Can't say much for the performance builders by if they're still in existence, they may be there. The performance builders don't have the confidence to pour even the slightest amount of money out these days.
Found their website and it looks like it will be at two locations, one being on the water. Anyone planning on going? We usually make the trip down from NorCal to see it.

First, I have not attended the LA boat show. I remember last year more performance boat builders on the West coast chose the Havasu boat show instead. Grads, you make the trip to DS in '13.

Havasu Boat Show is the ticket!! The LA boat show is a has been.
The 2013 L.A. Boat Show is February 7-10. Now that the SCMA has become an NMMA-owned and operated entity, things will change, some for the better, some not. I expect that the major national brands (Bayliner, Sea Ray, Chaparral, etc.) will be there. Will the "performance" mfgs show up -- I think its doubtful (only four made it to the show in 2012 -- Hallett, Eliminator, Shockwave and Essex). The cost to exhibitors is high -- $5.50 per square foot if you're an NMMA member (most SoCal companies are not, and the cost to join is significant). If you're not a member, the price goes to $6.50 per sq. ft. A moderate-sized display area for a boat mfg. (3 to 4 boats) is at least 2,000 sq. ft (do the math -- it's $11,000 to $13,000 in initial cost just to buy the space if you're a member). And now that NMMA is calling the shots, the days of getting a "sweetheart" price are gone. I have my doubts if many (or any) in the "performance" category boat mfgs have that kind of money to gamble with. Timing-wise, the L.A. Show also bumps up to Miami (L.A. ends on Feb. 10 and Miami starts on Feb. 14) which is a problem for some. More likely, there will be some "performance" boat mfgs at the Fred Hall Show in Long Beach (early March) and lots at the Havasu Show (April 19-21) just before Desert Storm. At Havasu, display space goes for only $.30 to $.35 per square foot -- quite a difference, especially when times are still tough.
