This is Wendi writing under WMC: A Saturday meet and greet at 8:00 am at the Queen Mary for a ride to Catalina dubbed the "Cats to Catalina". 4 boats and 18 people. My first time ever to Catalina and in a 24' cat. The ride there was not bad according to the driver and passengers. I was a bit scared. He averaged 60 mph. We stopped to watch a pod of over 100 dolphins which was the coolest thing ever. The water was so blue. It's a kind of eery feeling when you don't see land anywhere. Finally up ahead you can see the Island through the clouds. The island was beautiful. Clear blue skies and clear blue water. I saw a bright orange fish that you would see in the Carribean. The boardwalk was really neat. All the cute shops and bars. We ate at Antionio's. Might I recommend the fish tacos which were amazing and the rum matai (I believe), It comes in a mason jar. Oh so good!! Went to the local "dive bar", named the Blue Marlin and did a shot of fireball. So needless to say I was feeling pretty good when we left. The ride back was intense. The swells were bigger, closer and the added wind factor made it worse. We were getting air like crazy, hitting hard. We were going 30-40 mph, the chop was crazy. Today my entire body is sore. But I must say I felt very safe with Rob at the helm and truly enjoyed the day. We drove through the Los Angeles Harbor and saw the big freight rigs and the Iowa ship up close and personal. The day ended around 5 pm. Thanks Rob and Dustin for inviting us. We had a great time.Attachment 15077Attachment 15078Attachment 15079Attachment 15080Attachment 15081Attachment 15082Attachment 15083Attachment 15084Attachment 15085Attachment 15086Attachment 15087Attachment 15088Attachment 15089Attachment 15090Attachment 15091Attachment 15092

Looks like you guys had a great time!
Wendi,, likely the "orange" fish you saw were Garibaldi, the California state fish. Juveniles are particularly beautiful, with iridescent blue spots that disappear as they mature. I did some scuba diving when I lived in San Diego, basically the only bright fish you would see.
