I'd be willing to bet someone already found it. I left it where a lot of people hike. Maybe it will be on the news tonight.

Perhaps a phone call saying that he saw it and approximately where he last saw it. A simple he wasn't sure what it was until he got home and googled it might take care of it.

But it's phosphorus. If it gets on you, it will eat through your skin. Once it mixes with air, it catches fire and that fire basically never goes out.
