They are mandatory at LOTO with the Midwest winters, if you didn't use one the ice would crush your lift and ruin it, I had a 1hp ice eater and it ran about 10-12 hours a day from mid dec to march 1, better than finding your boat sitting on a block if ice.

That's the biggest reason we bought a house down here in Florida, LOTO is great , but only 6 months out of the year, winters suck.

Those 3 days sucked, I got stuck on the pass right at the 215 split. We fired a guy that day and I had to clean his truck out. I had Sweet Tarts and melted snow for dinner. Good thing my neighbor drove home with his 4 wheel drive or I would have never made it to my house. I shut it off and made Bloody Marys.

We get it every winter, but most of it's gone by noon. Your right, the last big one was about 15yrs. before this last one.
