The official hotboat.com "We get letters" thread
I've been getting a lot of pm's, emails, and smoke signals recently asking a variety of different questions. Some of them technical, some of them social, some of them rude LOL.
Some of the people seem to want to ask the members technical questions or their feelings about something, but don't necessarily want their identity to be known.
So, this is your opportunity to ask the members a question or share something with the rest of the members via PM to me and keep your identity 100% confidential.
So if you have something you want to share or ask and stay anonymous, simply send a PM to me or you can also email: info@hotboat.com I will share your question, comment, or concern and keep your identity 100% confidential. Please title your PM or email "We get letters". Please let me know what City and/or State you're from.
This should be interesting.
So fire away :D

We get letters #3:
"So HB, How do you pick you admin people are they friends or family or internet gurus that help maintain your site..and NO I’m not being a smartass..Just wondering how you pick your Admins"
Well they're flowing now.
How do I pick admins? Very good question. Gothalos and I are related. Mateo and I are friends. Admin2 is a member here. I asked the member to be a mod when the need for a little additional help arose. I was quite happy they accepted. The selection process isn't like my normal interview process, it's more along the lines of "you seem very level headed and reasonable, would you like to waste a little more time here keeping an eye on the place?"
The OG admin is a long time business acquaintance. Though he doesn't moderate in the typical fashion, he is quite capable. And he does boot a lot of the spammers.
Thank you for the question. I hope I sufficiently answered it for you.

We get letters, #4:
"Why don't you ban people who only come around to post mean comments or create drama? It's obvious what their intentions are"
This is turning in to a full time job lol.
This might take a little thought.
I guess I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. I think very few people actually come here to post drama and/or negative stuff.
I know there are a few who would love to see this site fail, that's just human nature sometimes. And it really doesn't bother me.
As far as banning them? There really is no need unless they break the rules. Their intentions will usually shine through in time and they will eventually get discouraged that we're still here and go away :D
I hope that answers your question.
