THe original Manx, and the developer...

Me too, but I'm old school, would love to have one.
In 1962, Honda , before there was a Baja 1000, wanted to prove how durable their bikes were, and picked Dave Ekins and Bill Robertson to run it. In 1967 Bruce Meyers decided to do the same thing, pre running the course south, and turning around and running back to TJ. IN OLD RED!!!! They broke the bikes record by more than 5 hours. A Manx won the very first Baja 1000 the same year, running the course south to La Paz.
As far as I know, Manx and Funco are the only VW powered cars that ever beat the bikes, and the Funco was a full tube frame offroad racer. After that, Stroppe prepared Broncos ruled the place. It wasn't until 1975 that the bikes started dominating.
Interesting story, really never knew where they came from, at one time they were everywhere ..... couldn't even guess how many were made.
They still make a very similar body called a Kick Out,

They made about 5,250 of the original Manx, and copy cats made thousands more.
I built 3 of them when I was in high school to make some money. They were a piece of cake to build.
That would be a cool kit car project to do with your Son or Daughter, don't want to leave the ladies out.
This is my Manx project sitting in the garage.

Cool facts sir... TY...
I came across a original manx body a few years ago but it was just a little too far gone for my level of interest... THere is one 5x as rough as the one I saw ebay now with the d meyer tag, stretched for an IRS pan... Hindsight being 20/20 I should have... :)
No pic???
