View Full Version : Tough Weekend

Son got his first ride in an ambulance. Teenager thought it would be cool running a hot lap on his 250 and pretty much went head-on into my six-year-old son on his 50. Saw the whole thing go down about 60 yards away and didn’t know what I was going to find when I ran up to the scene. From where I was, you could see the bodies fly. Fortunately he was in full gear from helmet to chest protector to braces on arms and legs. Tests still being done to figure out the damage. Got out of the ER but now seeing specialists and realizing the ER doesn’t know much.

Maybe I’ll post a picture of the bike later or maybe I should just delete all the pictures I took because they just make me sad. Rough weekend.

Dude I totally feel you. When my oldest was around 6 or so he launched his little 50 quad off a dirt hill and came down helmet face in to the bars. I can still hear him screaming to this day. Worst sound I've ever heard in my life. When I got to where he was all I saw was a mouth full of blood.

Had it not been for some super cool and helpful strangers who saw what happened, all of our bikes would have stayed in that offroad area, because I was going to leave them and haul ass as fast as possible to the ER.

Very similar deal though. That ER got him cleaned up and stitched up. Then we had to take him to ortho's and specialists when we got home.

Fortunately he only ended up with a permanent cool scar below his lower lip.

kids are incredibly resilient and super fast healers and I honestly think we felt worse than he did after the accident.

I hope your son is okay. Please update us.

Plastics gone.

Interesting trying to determine accident. It was head on but right side of 250 destroyed and major damage on the left of 50.

It was the mini rider that got hurt?

Glad both little rockers are OK....for the most part.

You can't start ATGATT too soon. Image this without.

It'll be a cool story at skool and down the line for sure.

Does he still wanna ride?

CC, I'm very very sorry to read this :(

I'm praying for a speedy and total recovery for all...

I had a real bad faceplant spill when I was about 20 and it totally changed my approach to hopping on my RM250 :airplane:

Concussion / head injury? Scary stuff......

Hang in there sir and please please keep us posted...

They're tough as nails. I'm sure he'll be fine. Bike looks like it went head on with a Chevy truck

I went through this at 17, over 200 stiches, knocked a head light out with my left eye.knocked my eyeball out of the crushed scull..cadaver bone to re construct my eye socket..and no...I wasn't wear'n a helmet... we had a track that we used to run out in the desert, you would come around this big tree and down the cannel bank and there was a little jump... some one put a truck hood stacked up on some logs, when I hit it I went straight up.. came off the bike,... the bike hit the ground first,... bounced up and hit me in the face..knocking my eye out and ripping my face off to the scull...fuck dirt bikes...

Yup. My boy was on the 50. A 16hr old on a 250 hit him. The both flew but one stayed down.

Fractures in each hand between the wrist and thumb. Casting him up now.

Neurology appointment tomorrow. He gets to skip school as neurologist doesn't want him using his brain. I should just bring him here to work because I don't use mine!

Oh man he did a good job. As long as his noggin is good, he'll heal up just fine.

Any updates on your kids conditions CC?

Thanks for asking. Still has the soft casting on his arms although now that his head is feeling better, it might need to be switch to hard as he's moving more. Another neurologist appointment tomorrow. I brought him into work with me today as he can't go to Friday School and use his brain. I barely use my brain here so he should be good. He's playing cars on my desk.

I have a 1:00 audit call with a customer and then I'm calling it a day. He'll help me get out of here early.

Well we've been able to take him off the head meds which have put him back into his normal high intensity little boy active state which is great. Now it's all about keeping his arms in tact as he wants to be more active.

So I brought him to my office on Friday as he couldn't go to school that day. No using his head allowed! We had a really good time, visited a client (which he really enjoyed) and hung out at the office. He fell asleep during my one conference call that day which enabled me to get out of the office and go home early.

Yesterday we had to find him something to do as there was a birthday party at a bounce house place and he definitely can't go there. No hitting his head! The grandparents took him out to have fun while all the others kiddos were able to go to the party with Mom. We're finding things for him to do and he's getting better.

Plastics should hopefully arrive in the mail today and I'll go get some new forks for the bike. What I want to do with the bikes has yet to be determined. No more riding where groups are around though. I'll stick to myself in Ocotillo.

Scary shit for sure. Glad he's healing quickly. Gotta be tough telling a kid you can't move or think or play....that probably sucks more than anything else. Good news tho!

glad to hear the progress on the recovery road, I threatened my boys to cut their dirt bike in half with a sawsall,... thing can get real bad real quick,... they all three have rzr's now.. one still has his 250r....hope he sells it soon...the bad thing for me is I bought them the bikes...they have both had multiple bad crashes, but soon as they healed they got right back on them...one time my son crashed bad ,cased a big down hill jump.. ate the handle bars..he was standing there drenched in blood, all he said was please dad.. don't take my bike..
