Does anyone know what Hallett did to there 290. I know/think they changed something on the hull (calling it V2D), i believe it was something to do with the steps? Can't seem to find anything on their website about it.

Hallett's new bottom (it's now about a year old) on the 290-S is based on a Michael Peters (Florida based naval architech) design that's been successfully used on several high speed military vessels. The V2D stands for: V--vee-bottom, 2 -- parallel trapping lapstrakes closest to the keel, and D -- for delta keel. It's an interesting departure from other ventilated step vees -- its primary benefit seems to be in turning control -- lots less tendency to be slippery, holding a much better/consistent arc during mid-range and high speeds turns. Definitely a more 'driver-friendly' design than some of the more aggressive ventilated vee-bottoms which in my opinion have gone too far for "joe average" boater.
