Are you going to Cabo just for fishing or do you want to fish while you are on vacation? I'm asking because I know a couple good hotels and boats for both. I LOVE Cabo!!!

Primarily for kayak fishing, The Ranch is supposed to be geared toward that... I would appreciate any hotels/info you have...

Is that a Van Warmer resort? Think there are like 3 or 4 of those resorts....never heard the Ranch per say but I now the Van Warmer resorts gear way towards fishing trips particularly in the sea of Cortez

Rancho Leonero , the founder of kayakfishing.com / Spike has been going there for many years with groups... He charters out of Malibu CA to the Channel Islands usually...

Those kayak guys are nuts... have seen them close to 100 miles offshore outside Puerto Vallarta when the boat was down there. Granted, they had a big sportfisher nearby for backup, but just paddling around with an 80 reel between their legs in the same area that 1,000+ lb marlin are pulled out from time to time. No thank you! I like the comfort of a boat that's a big more substantial.

Question, when I sit in a Kayak, granted not a fishing Kayak, my back starts to ache after about 20 min. Does that happen to you???

Cuts down on the travel time on a sport fisher from San Diego and you can get into the big cow tuna in a day..

Nope, no back ache but my two kayaks (old town and wilderness systems) have adjustable back rests on the seats... I go for 10+ hours at a time with few breaks... :) An ocean kayak without a padded seat/back rest would be very uncomfortable in short order...

I've got a buddy in PV when you're ready to go fishing. He's got a charter service. Fishes a dual outboard panga mostly, but does have access to the bigger sportfishers if that's the route you want to go. I'm dying to go down and wet some lines with him again. Was the captain of the boat for years before we moved it to San Carlos.

Sounds awesome! Im not married to a big sport fisher. I just want to hook up on a big 100lb-200lb+ yellow Fin! That is one of my bucket list items!
Something along these lines...

I don't know if they have any as small as you're looking for down there. We'd knock down 250 lb'ers on a regular basis. Lots of big cows. Captain Danny is on the right in the pic and he's every bit of 5'10.

Let me know when you want to go. We always had a great time down there in the fall and on into the new year. Nothing like sitting in the pool January 3rd watching planes take off and getting ready to head to the airport. They really don't have a winter down there per se.

Yeah, tuna wouldn't be as bad as they don't tend to try and jump in the boat with you, not to mention, they don't have a big sharp pointed thing at the end of their face either. That's the bad part. Pretty much every local I've ever fished with in Mexico has a big scar or 2 from the bacterial infection that comes from scraping against the sharp end of a billfish. :yikes:

Would be fun but you may end up like "The old man and the Sea"
Pulled 100+ miles off shore! May want a small trolling motor on the Kayak in that case haha

My biggest (or I should say OUR biggest) catch in the kayaks was a 5 1/2 foot black tip in the glades around HiltonHead island... I had to hand off to my nephew since he was in the front (tandem kayak) bcuz the shark was pulling us sideways/backwards which wasn't good...

I've only been on east coast shark charters and caught some big lemons. If that sardine choker in my original post can land a 1250 lb fish I think I could handle a a 200lb yellowfin... IF not I could always cut the line... :thumb: Im ready to give it a whirl come spring time in PV...

On the fishing kayaks, is there some sort of harness you can strap the rod to in order to gain leverage on the fish?

I know when you are on the sport fishers, they use the body harness and strap the rod/reel to you so you can use your body weight as leverage. Just trying to figure out how you achieve just leverage in a sitting position?

OUTstanding... that looks awesome... Are they fishing off of they SanDiego coast or is that the Channel Islands?

I fish soft baits like that most of the time, my favorite...

I did get some nice calico bass at Catalina and saw the yellowtails every bit as big as the ones in that video destroying a bait ball... That looks outstanding...

Neither, the boat leaves out of San Diego and fishes off of Baja at either Cedros Island or Guadeloupe Island. I think it's like a 5 day trip.

When in spring do you think you are going and for how long?

Cedros Island , I couldnt understand what he was saying with my crappy laptop speakers... :)

THE spring trip will be a combo for our 30th anniversary and kayak fishing :) we still have to carve out the schedule, prolly two weeks... I have free flights directly to PV...

IF you or anyone else is interested in a trip to Catalina for some kayak fishing on the back side of the island Im game... I have been trying to get to Little Harbor to check out the fishing for a while...
